Child & Young People’s Safety & Wellbeing Resources

Momentum Mental Health is committed to providing safe, inclusive and supportive environments for all children and young people. As a Child Safe Organisation in Queensland, we uphold the principles of the Queensland Child Safe Standards and continuously work to strengthen our governance, culture, and practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

This page outlines our public commitment to child safety and provides access to key policies, frameworks, and child-friendly resources. Together, these documents demonstrate how we work to prevent harm, promote cultural safety, respond to concerns, and uphold the rights and voices of children and young people.

Governance and Oversight

Strong governance is central to Momentum’s approach to child safety and wellbeing. We provide oversight, accountability, and continuous improvement through two dedicated advisory and governance groups:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing Governance Committee
This committee provides organisational oversight of child safety and wellbeing, ensuring Momentum meets its legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations. The committee monitors risk, policy implementation, incident responses, and continuous improvement activities related to children and young people.
  • Cultural Safety Advisory Group
This advisory group provides guidance and advice to strengthen Momentum’s cultural safety practices. It supports respectful, inclusive, and culturally safe environments, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

These groups play a critical role in embedding child safety and cultural safety into leadership decision-making and organisational culture.

Frameworks

Our frameworks guide how child safety and cultural safety are embedded into everyday practice across Momentum programs and services.

Codes of Conduct

Our Codes of Conduct set clear expectations for behaviour when working with or around children and young people.

Policies

These policies support safe service delivery, risk management, and clear responses to concerns involving children and young people.

  • Cultural Safety Policy

Children and Young People’s Rights

Momentum believes children and young people have the right to feel safe, be respected, and have a say in matters that affect them.

  • Momentum’s Children’s Rights Brochure
Explains children’s rights, what being safe means at Momentum, and how to speak up if something feels wrong. Download a copy of our brochure here.

Raising a Concern or Making a Complaint

Momentum encourages children, young people, parents, carers, staff, volunteers, and community members to speak up if they have concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.

Concerns can be raised:

  • Directly with a Momentum staff member, or
  • Through our Children and Young Persons Complaint process, which is designed to be safe, respectful, and age-appropriate

All concerns are taken seriously and responded to promptly, respectfully, and in line with our legal and ethical obligations.

Continuous Improvement

Child safety is an ongoing commitment. Momentum Mental Health regularly reviews its policies, practices, training, and governance arrangements to ensure we meet best-practice standards and continue to provide safe, welcoming spaces for children and young people.
