About Us
Momentum Mental Health was established in 1996 under the name of Toowoomba Clubhouse. Over the years, the service has evolved, and we became Momentum Mental Health (“Momentum”) on 1 July 2021.
We provide group and individual non-clinical free programs to anyone over 16 years of age. We also provide free bulk-billed clinical psychology services through our fundraising.
In 2022, the organisation expanded to meet community needs in Western Downs and Southern Downs regions; and in mid-2024 we established a satellite site in the South Burnett. In 2025, thanks to Queensland Health Funding, Momentum expanded out-reach services for the group-based peer-recovery support program to Dalby and Kingaroy.

At Momentum, we are passionate about innovating non-clinical mental health supports and facilitating safe spaces to be authentic and productive. Our Wellbeing Coaches use an internationally researched practice framework based on the health literacy improvement program, the “5 Ways to Wellbeing”.
Together with our members, we run programs and 1:1 sessions which focus on five types of behaviours or everyday things which people can do to increase their mental health and wellbeing.

These evidence-based actions have been proven to help people to stay emotionally, socially, spiritually and psychologically healthy, which in turn allows us to build resilience for the hard times.
We Are Award Winners
Momentum Mental Health is proud to have been recognised for our impact and dedication to community wellbeing through several prestigious awards. In 2024, we were honoured to receive the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Excellence in Health and Wellbeing, and named a finalist in the Queensland Community Impact Awards in the Prevention Excellence category.
This followed a successful 2023, where Momentum won two Toowoomba Business Excellence Awards for Excellence in Health and Wellbeing and Excellence in Not-for-Profit.
In 2025, we were also proud to be named a finalist in the Darling Downs and Toowoomba Business DisABILITY Awards, in the Social Inclusion category.
These acknowledgements reflect the dedication of our team and the strength of our community partnerships in supporting mental health and wellbeing across the region.

Case Study Examples of our Impact
From Overwhelmed Student to State Manager – K’s Story
When K first came to Momentum, she was struggling. University felt impossible, her confidence was at rock bottom, and she was barely scraping through with C grades. She joined an art therapy class—just to try something different—and began working one-on-one with a wellbeing coach
Together, they built her confidence back up, worked on her résumé, and created a plan for managing uni stress. Her marks began to climb—and kept climbing—all the way to high distinctions.
Within a year, K had landed a job. Today, she’s the Queensland State Manager of a national disability organisation.
“I can’t believe that a year ago I was a bumbling mess and now I’m a State Manager!” – K
Rebuilding After 20 Years in Isolation – C’s Story
For two decades, C barely left the house. After years of trauma, isolation had become the only way she knew how to feel safe. But inside, she longed for connection and healing.
Her journey with Momentum began quietly—just one art therapy class. But slowly, through creating, sharing, and being welcomed without judgment, something shifted.
Today, C has friends, her self-esteem is returning, and the healing has begun.
“Momentum made a huge difference in my world. After 20 years in isolation, I now have friends. Momentum is healing my trauma.” – C
Discovering Identity Through Art and Support – E’s Story
E came to Momentum feeling numb. A survivor of childhood trauma and from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, she didn’t know who she was or what she wanted.
She joined a small group through our Commonwealth Psychosocial Support program, and paired that with one-on-one coaching. Through those sessions, E began to explore her passions and reimagine her future.
Now, she’s studying for an arts degree—something she never thought possible.
“I’m finally living my best life.” – E
From Silent Struggles to Academic Dreams – X’s Story
For 18 months, X came to Momentum but couldn’t join a session. Living with severe social anxiety, OCD, and chronic mental illness—compounded by a family history of suicide—simply walking through the door was an achievement.
But we stayed with them. Slowly, at their pace, we built trust, connection, and confidence. One day, they joined a session. And then another.
Now, X has applied for a university scholarship—a future once unimaginable now feels within reach.
Turning Trauma Into Opportunity – Y’s Story
Six months after surviving a serious assault, Y was stuck in a cycle of fear and uncertainty. Work felt impossible, and confidence was shattered.
They began attending Momentum’s group sessions and met regularly with a wellbeing coach. Gradually, things started to shift.
Now, with our support and through a partnership with Vanguard Laundry, Y is preparing to begin paid work experience—ready to step into a new future.
